How often I heard people exclaim, “I would like to have been born in 100 years sooner when there was no worry and no pressure.”
How could anyone really believe life was stress free, worry free!
Before laws and unions were established to protect workers, before mechanization, before sterilization, pasteurization, penicillin, insulin, and all the many other medical advances were available stress, worry, and grief were part of everyday life.
Realizing how little of the actual lives and experiences of our earliest settlers was available, I felt the need to share the results of years of research in official documents, letters, journals, publications, diaries and photographs to piece together the story of life in the years early settlement of the Rawdon Settlement.
The story varies to tales of good to bad, success and failure, rejoicing and mourning by these, our ancestors who made Rawdon an example of sucess for those following this 4th settlement under British rule.
Using the experiences of those who came before, I have recorded the challenges, trials, tribulations, and sorrows, as well as the successes, triumphs, and joys, faced by those attempting to settle in a new land far from home.
These people faced their lives with courage sustained by faith and hope enjoying the few and simple pleasures that came their way.
